| Kurmie in warmer times |
While we were out of Osh in late October/early November (I traveled to work in Bishkek and Ryan was in the U.S.), I asked our landlady to look after our kitty, Kurmie. Our landlady lives next door, has a key to our place, and has looked after Kurmie before. No big deal. She agreed and I took off. Last week, Ryan and I returned to Osh on Wednesday night but we weren't greeted by little meowing Kurmie in our backyard. And all the cans of food I'd left our landlady to feed Kurmie were untouched! Kurmie hardly ever leaves the yard, even though she can scale the fence, but we both figured she'd gone on an excursion for food. I was a little upset at our landlady, though, so I called her to see why she hadn't fed the kitty as agreed. Our landlady assured us that Kurmie was inside with them and had been staying with her all the week prior. Mucho relieve-o. We thought Kurmie would come back to us shortly if she was let outside, otherwise she was safe and warm inside with them. So Saturday rolled around and we wanted to take Kurmie to the vet in Osh. Ryan went over to our landlady's house to get Kurmie and learned that our kitty had run away two days prior! We're a little heartbroken. Our sweet, gentle kitty is no match for the street cats of Osh, not in this weather especially. Here it is now, Sunday night, and we haven't seen a trace of Kurmie. Ryan's kind of torn up about it. He has gone outside twice just today to call her name. We fear the worst - Kurmie's gone for good. She had her issues, sure, but she was a people-loving kitty which we were growing to love. Here's to holding out hope for a future kurmie-ryan-becky reunion.
