The kitty, Kurmie

Here's a few photos of our cat in Osh, her name is Kurmie. She's kind of a metaphor for Osh - limited tricks, mangy, with issues, but sweet and grows on a person. Her name is shorthand for "Kurmanjan Datka," a famous Kyrgyz woman who helped unite the folks here against the Russians way back when. When we moved into the house four months ago, Kurmie was the only kitten that remained of her litter. Actually we didn't ask about any others. Kurmie loves people and purrs like a maniac when you pick her up, which is adorable. Her mom was pretty sick and ran away shortly after we arrived, coming back infrequently with the shakes and barely-open eyes. We liked to joke that MomCat was drunk and getting her kicks elsewhere. MomCat hasn't returned in several weeks so that's sad but probably for the best. Although, her departure left Kurmie a bit traumatized.

Kurmie favors Ryan and prefers to be cuddled by him, even though I feed her and pet her during the day. (Ungrateful little kitty!) But she's cute and we are hoping to bring her inside now that the weather is cold. Unfortunately Kurmie has been fighting the usual cat issues: fleas, ticks, ear mites, worms, and - I strongly believe due to intensive internet research - ringworm. Her issues go on and on. Ryan and I get her medicine when we can in Bishkek and treat her for most of it. We even gave her a flea bath once. I think it helped. Hopefully soon we can take her to a proper vet in Osh who will clean her up once and for all. Then Kurmie can come inside the house and we can give her more attention. And maybe she'll start liking me more... :)
