Whenever I go up to Bishkek I scour their markets for produce and food items we can't find here in Osh. A few weeks ago I hauled back home really fresh green leaf spinach. Very exciting to have a "superfood" back in the pantry. It had just so happened that Ryan returned from the U.S. a few weeks prior. For my birthday he gave me two packages of dried cranberries from Trader Joe's. I was in heaven! I had also found soy milk (!!!) along with marshmallows and other random treats at a semi-secret store on the outskirts of Bishkek. I don't exactly crave/miss marshmallows and lasagna noodles, but the store was still a rare find so I scooped up what I could.
All that said, the result was that I crammed spinach into every dish I could for the following week. I've also enjoyed dropping marshmallows on hot chocolate drinks (sent by Ryan's mom last year) during cold nights. Honestly, may sound silly but they're fun treats! Here's a photo of a fresh salad I made on the first day back in Osh. I made my own dressing and topped it with the cranberries from Ryan. Just call me Popeye.
